Industrial Committee
ASERTTI's Industrial Committee collaborates with policymakers,
industry and researchers to encourage the development and
commercialization of energy efficient technologies for industrial
applications. Energy efficiency will reduce costs and improve the
competitiveness of U.S manufacturing.
On January 23, 2012, ASERTTI's Industrial Committee hosted a webinar
presentation by Dr. Leo Christodoulou, Program Manager for the Advanced
Manufacturing Office (AMO) at the U.S. Department of Energy. Dr.
Christodoulou discussed AMO's agenda for FY2012 and new program
initiatives of interest to ASERTTI members.

ASERTTI member organizations, Washington State University-Cooperative
Extension Energy Program and the Energy Resources Center at the
University of Illinois at Chicago, participate in the
SEE Action Industrial Energy Efficiency and CHP Working Group, a
joint U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
initiative.
ASERTTI and the National Association of State Energy Officials
(NASEO) co-sponsored an
Industrial
Energy Efficiency and Competitiveness Workshop, held October 4-6, in
Cleveland, OH. The workshop addressed constructive policy and
market-oriented strategies for driving down costs, reducing emissions
and propelling energy efficiency in the industrial sector. In addition
to ASERTTI members, participating organizations included: DOE, Ford
Motor Company, Great Plains Institute, Midwestern Governors Association,
Oak Ridge National Laboratory, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
University of Dayton, University of Michigan, and World Resources
Institute, among others.
ASERTTI and its members support the
Compressed Air Challenge (CAC), co-sponsored by DOE, which is a
voluntary collaboration of industrial users; manufacturers, distributors
and their associations; consultants; state research and development
agencies; and others. The mission of the CAC is to be the leading source
of product-neutral compressed air system information and education,
enabling end users to improve efficiency and production, leading to
increased profits.
ASERTTI recently signed a
support
letter urging Congress to extend the successful 1603 Treasury
Program that is currently set to expire on December 31, 2011. The
Program, enacted in 2009 and extended in 2010, allows energy developers
to receive a federal grant in lieu of taking an existing energy tax
incentive they are otherwise entitled to claim including availability
to those investors eligible and seeking to take advantage of the
combined heat and power (CHP) Investment Tax Credit.
ASERTTI, the Alliance for Industrial Efficiency and the Business
Council for Sustainable Energy, in cooperation with the House
Manufacturing Caucus, hosted a Congressional Briefing on November 17,
2011, Industrial Efficiency: Economic Development and Energy Savings
through State-Federal-Private Collaboration, at the Rayburn House Office
Building. Guest speakers included:
Larry Boyd, Energy Industries of Ohio;
John Cuttica, Energy Resources Center, University of Illinois,
Chicago;
Daniel S. LeFevers, Executive Director, Washington Operations, Gas
Technology Institute; and,
Dick Munson, Senior Vice President, Recycled Energy Development.
