DOE Annual Wind Market Report Webinar

Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy recently released the latest edition of the annual "Wind Technologies Market Report," which provides a comprehensive overview of trends in the U.S. wind power market.  Please click here for the full story and a link to the report.  DOE will host a webinar summarizing the key findings of the report, presented by Ryan Wiser of Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory.  The webinar will be held on August 18, 2010 at 2 PM Eastern (11am Pacific).  If you are interested in joining this webinar, please email Susan Fabio Hinnen at NREL (susan.hinnen@nrel.gov) by Monday, August 16th to ensure that there are an adequate number of phone lines.  To join the webinar, please use the access information below.

CA Energy Commission Awards $3.5 Million for Research Projects

ASERTTI member, the California Energy Commission, recently awarded $3,507,119 to help support research on a variety of projects. Funds for the research grants come from the Commission's Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) program.  "The PIER funds are an investment in California's clean energy future," said Energy Commissioner Jeffrey Byron. "The PIER program has a successful track record of developing innovative tools and technologies that benefit all Californians."  The PIER program supports public interest research and development that helps improve the quality of life in California by bringing environmentally safe, reliable, and affordable energy services and products to the marketplace. Brown Goes Green as LIPA Partners with United Parcel Service to Make Long Island More Energy Efficient

ASERTTI member, the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), continues to partner with businesses and residents to help reduce the environmental impact of living and doing business on Long Island. LIPA provided $100,000 under its Commercial Efficiency Program for UPS' commitment to become one of the most environmentally conscious Long Island companies by providing significant energy efficiency upgrades at their facilities and lowering their carbon footprint.  The energy efficiency measures taken by UPS under LIPA's Commercial Efficiency Program will reduce LIPA's demand by over 260 kW. per year and will have the equivalent effect of reducing 167 cars off the road or 103,445 gallons of gas not consumed for a year.  Please click here for the full story.

MSU Billings College of Technology Present Forum on Energy

Experts from ASERTTI member, the Montana State University Billings College of Technology, along with the Montana Department of Labor and Industry and the Billings Job Service will provide insights into education and training necessary for people to be prepared for continued growth in the energy economy at the "Career Awareness Fair for the Energy and Heavy Equipment Industries" on Wednesday, August 18, 2010.  The renewable energy arena is projected to become a major player in Montana's economy. To prepare workers for that industry, the MSU Billings College of Technology will begin offering a two-year program in sustainable energy technology starting in January.  For more information on the new program and the Career Awareness Fair, please click here. 

NY-BEST Seeking Executive Director and Operational Support

The NY-BEST Board of Directors is pleased to announce its release of a solicitation to acquire an Executive Director for NY-BEST as well as an organization to provide operational support.  The Executive Director is expected to work full-time on NY-BEST activities to accelerate the commercial introduction of energy storage technology in New York, build the human capital and expertise to sustain a vibrant commercial energy storage industry in New York, and leverage seed resources of approximately $25 million to create a sustainable organization that provides value to its members and to New York State. Individuals may apply directly for this position or as part of a broader application with an organization to provide operational support.

Organizations providing operational support may be for-profit or not-for-profit entities and must be experienced delivering the services outlined in the solicitation including financial management, correspondence, membership, public relations, conference planning, and website development.  Subject to availability of funds, up to approximately $3.5 million is anticipated over five years to support both the Executive Director and the organization providing operational support.  Hard copies of submissions must be received by 5:00 PM EST on September 1, 2010.
